Dr. Darrel Jenerette

Dr. Darrel JeneretteDr. Darrel Jenerette is an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Riverside in the Department of Botany and Plant Sciences. He received his PhD in 2004 from Arizona State University in the Department of Plant Biology and completed post-doctoral work at The Ohio State University (2004-2005) and was an NSF biological informatics postdoctoral fellow at the University of Arizona (2005-2007).

The Jenerette Lab addresses questions related to ecosystem response to climatic variability, urban ecological dynamics, and ecological scaling.  Recently the work in his lab has focused on understanding coupled carbon, water, and energy dynamics in mixed-use landscapes.  Dr. Jenerette uses an interdisciplinary framework for his research, including regular collaboration with hydrologists, climatologists, sociologists, economists, and engineers.  His current grant-funded work spans many areas of ecology and includes studies on plant invasions, urban vulnerability to climate change and the effectiveness of orchards as buffers between neighborhoods and wildfire.

Dr. Jenerette has organized and served as an invited participant in many collaborative workshops and symposia. In early 2008, he joined the editorial board of Landscape Ecology.  Dr. Jenerette is a 2007 CUAHSI Early Career Fellow and a member of the Hydrologic Synthesis Team.
