First Presentation for River, Coastal, and Estuarine Morphodynamics conference

Alexander Sukhodolov presentation

The first presentation co-sponsored by CWACES was by Alexander Sukhodolov, on October 14, 2005. Dr. Sukhodolov presented work he has done recently in Germany on the study of turbulent flows in natural river systems. Studies of turbulent flows have mainly been conducted in the laboratory, which has limited understanding of the complexity of turbulent flows in natural rivers and streams. Dr. Sukhodolov described research on turbulent flow through meander bends and through submerged aquatic vegetation in natural rivers, and also demonstrated how his methodology for measuring turbulent flow in rivers can be used by other scientists to study rivers in a wide variety of geographic environments.

Dr. Sukhodolov presented this talk as part of a 3-week residency at UIUC, also co-sponsored by CWACES, to collaborate with Center members, and attendees of the River, Coastal, and Estuarine Morphodynamics (RCEM) conference on other water-related research activities.
